Classified As Regional Areas: Perth And Gold Coast Article By Immigration Agent In Sydney.

Perth and Gold coast have just been designated as regional areas ... is this awesome news..!! To attempt to divert migrants this change was made by immigration from the major cities of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Immigration has also increased regional visas to 25,0000 per year.The Gold Coast and Perth will be reclassified as regional areas - announced by Immigration minister David Coleman in an effort to attract regional migrants. With this change regional areas include Sunshine Coast, Illawarra,Lake Macquarie, Perth, Gold coast, Wollongong, Geelong, Newcastle,Adelaide and Canberra. Previously under the federal government’s migration classification both Perth and Gold Coast, along with Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane were considered “metro”.

This news came after a bid in making submissions to the federal government to be classified as “regional Australia to attract migrants and foreign students by Perth and Gold Coast.   

This will open the door for international students and skilled workers to easier migration to Perth and Gold Coast. International graduates will now get an extra year on their PSWP in Gold Coast and Perth.The Australian Govt. has also announced an additional two years that those in Darwin and other regional areas will get. This means on their Post-Study Work Permit that PhD graduates will effectively get six years. Perth and Gold Coast will not be eligible for Destination Australia scholarships, Despite being included in the regional areas. Only areas that have been classified as “Very Remote Australia” and “Inner Regional Australia” by the Australian Bureau of Statistics are eligible for the same.So, only Darwin qualifies for the Destination Australia scholarships as well as two years of PSWP among all capital cities. Areas in the new regional definition which enable employers and migrants to access an expanded variety of jobs as well as getting priority processing, will hold access to the two new skilled regional provisional visas. This approach will provide more regional businesses to obtain skills in short supply and provide consistency across skilled visa programs through regional migration programs. The changes will make it easier for skilled workers and international students to migrate to the Gold Coast and Perth. 

The change is significant for the new regional visas commencing 16 November 2019 for skilled workers trying to apply namely: 

• Subclass 494 -  Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa. It also significantly increases to sponsor overseas workers the number of occupations business owners could seek 
• Subclass 491 -  Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa

• For the graduate 485 visa extra 1 year   
• For studying in a regional area extra 5 points in the Skilled visa points grid 

Without doubt, the regional classification of Perth and the Gold Coast would enable businesses to source their skilled work force from overseas workers and improve their capacity to attract international students and overseas skilled workers. 

The Government announced it would reduce the permanent migration cap from 190,000 to 160,000 places in March this year and for regional visas within that set aside 23,000 places. 

the Government is increasing the total number of regional places to 25,000, Following unprecedented growth (124 per cent) in the number of regional visas granted in the first quarter of this programme year.
