What are the target sectors?

From one of the seven target sector the GTI program aims to attract highly skilled and talented individuals. These are the target sectors:

Resources - Agri-food and Ag tech - Energy- Health Industries - Circular Economy - Digi Tech - Education- Infrastructure and Tourism - Financial Services and Fin Tech - Defense, Advanced Manufacturing and Space.

For the GTI program how many spots are allocated? 

15,000 spots were allocated to the GTI program for the 2020-21 migration program.

When applicants can directly apply for the EOI is it necessary for them to reach out to a GTO to apply for the GTI program? 

To promote the GTI program in London, Shanghai, Singapore and Washington DC, the Department has deployed Global Talent Officers (GTO). The GTOs are continuing their role in Australia due to Covid-19. For the GTI program are there any tips in preparing and filling out the EOI? 

The EOI is a form to assess an applicant’s eligibility for the visa program that has been streamlined by the Department. Using the Global Talent contact form the applicant can fill out the EOI. To assess the applicant’s eligibility the form will ask for a variety of questions. These include: 

• Personal details
• Current salary
• Information on the nominator
• Evidence of global talent- occupation title, employer and industry 
• Educational background 
• Of an internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievements evidence.

The applicant may also attach to the EOI any relevant documents 

It is essential to highlight the outstanding and exceptional achievements by attaching relevant documents, as the form’s purpose is to determine eligibility.

Once it has been submitted is it possible to update the EOI?

The applicant can send an email to glibaltalent@homeaffairs.gov.au to update the EOI. The applicant should include crucial details such as date of birth, name and passport number when sending the email so that the Department can link the additional information to the correct EOI application.

Does the department place a quota issued per targeted sector on the number of invitations?

Individuals who can contribute Australia’s economic growth post-pandemic are highly sought after; however there is no quota in place per targeted sector. These include individuals in Fin Tech, Advanced Manufacturing sector and Med Tech. The breakdown of grants per targeted sector was as follows in the 2019-2020 migration programs.

• MedTech - 26%
• AgTech - 9%
• Fin Tech - 6%
• Advanced digital, Quantum information, data science and ICT - 28%
• Energy and Mining Technology - 20%
• Space and Advanced Manufacturing - 8%
• Cyber security - 3%

Per applicant’s country of origin does the Department place a quota on the number of invitations issued?

However there is no quota in place per countries of origin, the government allocated 15,000 spots for the GTI program.

If he/she meets all the requirements for the GTI will the applicant receive an invite?

The eligibility criteria can be broken down into a few different sections for the GTI program:

1. In one of the seven targeted sectors the applicant must be highly skilled.

2. Have a nominator

3. Ability to attract a salary of $153,600 the applicant must have

4. The applicant shows that he/she has no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia and must be an asset to Australia. The applicant must demonstrate that he/she is prominent in his/her field of expertise and is internationally recognized.

However the applicants are ranked against each other meeting the minimum requirement is also vital to remember and does not guarantee a spot in the GTI program.

Masters and Honors students - Global Talent Independent changes (from 20 January 2021)

Based solely on their academic qualifications, Global Talent Independent program now prevent Masters and Honors students from receiving an invitation. Contact migration agency in Sydney for more information.

By candidates who have not yet received an invitation to the Global Talent program by 20 January 2021, this policy changes applies to EOI submission and affects all future EOI assessments.

EOI candidates who have submitted an EOI prior to the policy changes are encouraged to review their eligibility and when they meet the new requirements than consider applying again.
