VICTORIA:

Victoria school fees for children of 457 visas & 482 TSS visa holders:

Dependent children of 457 and 482 visa holders at government schools in Victoria are not required to pay tuition fees, however they may be required to pay to the school that they enroll in a levy or other fees specific. 

WESTERN AUSTRALIA:

Western Australia school fees for children of 457 visas & 482 TSS visa holders:

There is a tuition fee for dependent children enrolled in public schools for the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) and for Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) holders. Regardless of the number of children (Pre-primary to Year 12) a family have enrolled the tuition fee is $ 4,000.

In Western Australia by TAFE International Western Australia, the visa 457 and 482 fee collection is managed on behalf of the Department of Education.

From TAFE International Western Australia You will receive a Fee Advice for $4,000, the State Government agency responsible for attending Western Australian public schools for overseas fee paying students. As an email or in the post the fee advice will be sent to you and you can elect to pay the tuition fee via direct debit in installments or upfront (weekly, fortnightly or monthly). Before the end of the school calendar year full payment must be received in which the invoice is issued. The final installment must be completed by the end of the last week of the school year if payments are made by installments.

For example:  Your employer can pay the Fee. There is no restriction on who pays the tuition fee.

Tuition fee of my child can be reduced or waived?

Financial hardship applications can no longer be submitted for the 2015 and 2016 tuition fee. An application for a fee waiver must be made within the year that the fee is incurred.

Financial hardship applications are of two different kinds:

1.    You are eligible to apply for a fee waiver within six months of the event If there are unforeseen changes to your financial circumstances which have impacted your ability to pay the fee. Unemployment, illness, family, change of employment conditions and death these included in unforeseen changes.

2.    You are eligible to apply for a fee waiver, if your combined gross family income is $75 000 or less a year. The waiver is not ongoing, you will need to produce evidence & apply each year to support your application. 

On a case by case basis applications will be considered. Where you do not have the ability to pay the tuition fee for that period only a fee waiver is applicable. You will need to provide evidence to support your application, it is not ongoing.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA:

South Australia school fees for children of 457 visas & 482 TSS visa holders:

Whose children attend government schools in the greater Adelaide region a fee applies for families on 457 and 482 visas. Students attending some schools as of January 2019 in country areas of South Australia no longer have to pay a fee. Based on family circumstances the amount is payable. 

While working in Australia the temporary resident student fee is based on the annual combined family income you will earn and is set each year.

For 2021 the maximum annual fee payable on 457 and 482 visas by a family in Adelaide is: 

•    For each primary school student – 5400$

•    For each high school student – 6500$

For the eldest child in a family this amount is charged and for all siblings have 10% discount in fees. Only the 3 youngest children are charged, for families with 4 or more children. Full fee is charged for eldest child and in your registration all children must be included. Consult Migration Agency in Sydney for assistance. 

You can pay the fee either 

•    via BPay or, BPoint up-front annually

•    via BPay, BPoint or direct debit in weekly, fortnightly, monthly or per term instalments.

Tuition fee of my child can be reduced or waived?

You can apply to waive or reduce the temporary resident student fees,if your family’s circumstances change.
Income Decrease

The primary applicant may apply for a fee waiver or reduction, if your income decreases,

You must provide:

•    Visa grants notice of your 457 or 482 visa

•    3 most recent pay slips of yours and your partner

•    From all employment in the last 12 months income reported on PAYG payment summary

Financial Hardship

The primary applicant can apply for a fee waiver or reduction, if unplanned changes happen to your financial circumstances that will impact on paying the fee:

•    Unplanned changes can include: serious illness, change of employment conditions, family breakdown, Change in your financial circumstances , death and unemployment

You’ll need to give evidence to support your application as applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

You may not be eligible to pay the fee if:

•    your visa status changes

•    your gross family income falls below the minimum threshold.

•    your children leave the public school system

NSW:

NSW school fees for children of 482 TSS visa and 457 visa holders:

By the visa subclass held by the student the tuition fees for a temporary resident student are determined. For the one-year enrolment of a temporary resident student the tuition fees are as follows: (excludes visitor visa and a dependant of an international student).

School years 2020 & 2021

Tuition fees for one year (40 school weeks)
$5,600 Primary school (years KG-6)
$5,600 Junior high school (years 7-10) 
$6,400 Senior high school (years 11-12)

When are these fees paid?

The education fee may be paid half yearly in advance (representing 20 school weeks) or annually in advance (representing 40 school weeks). On a whole week basis the education fess is charged. The whole week rate is charged, if for any reason a student only attends school for a part week.

How are these fees paid?

Payments are to be made in Australian dollars for initial enrolments, by bank cheque, credit card (Visa Card or MasterCard), Australia Post money order or bank draft. To the NSW Department of Education Bank cheques, bank draft or postal money orders are payable. Personal cheques, cash and company cheques are not accepted. The Temporary Residents Program will issue an official receipt of payment upon request. For ongoing enrolments. Payment methods are made available using BPay, internet and telephone banking. Is my child exempt from paying tuition fees?

•    Dependants of international students who are sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade or the Department of Defense or who have a full scholarship from the Australian Government.

•    Exchange students through organizations who are registered with the NSW Department of Education and enroll in NSW government schools that manage student exchange programs.

•    By the NSW Department of Education dependants of teachers organized on exchange programs or memoranda of understanding or in agreements recognized by the department.

•    Enrolled in a NSW government hospital school Temporary residents and receiving in-patient care

•    Issued by the Department of Home Affairs Students who are holders of an Immi Card.
