From today, with a greater focus on values like freedom, respect, equality and the rule of law, new applicants for most visas will be required to sign or accept an updated Australian Values Statement. New residents and visitors can learn more from the life of Australian booklets about the Australian Values Statement and our history, culture and society. If you work with migrants or have relatives or friends who recently arrived in Australia you might also find the Life in Australia booklet useful.
The declaration that Australian citizenship applicants sign has also been updated to mirror the wording of the Australian Values Statement as part of their application.
Our shared values unite us as Australians and underpin the freedom and prosperity for the millions of migrants that makes our nation so attractive for work, visit and settle here.
The updated statement is the first substantial change to the Australian Values Statement since it was introduced in 2007 and it better reflects the importance we place on these values. There will now be one statement that confirms they understand and will conduct themselves in line with our values and our laws for both temporary and permanent visa applicants.
Those who want to settle in Australia permanently and participate in the community and have the best possible chance to get a job will also commit to make reasonable efforts to learn English. There is no new threshold or test associated with this change. The change are part which builds on the $71 million social cohesion package announced in March 2019,of the Morrison Government’s $62.8 million investment in protecting our social cohesion. As previously announced, a new Australian Citizenship Test came into effect on 15 November with a stronger focus on Australian values. The life in Australia booklet provides supporting information on the values to visa applicants in the updated Australian values statement.for more information contact IME Advisor - Immigration Agency in Sydney.
