What is the Student visa 500?

The Student visa (subclass 500) allows you to remain in Sydney for up to 5 years for the purpose of full-time study at an educational institution, in line with your enrolment.

With this visa you can:
•    Take part in a qualified course of study.
•    Include your family fellows in your application your partner or you and your partner's dependent child.
•    Apply online in or outside Sydney, Australia.
•    Work up to 40 hours every 2-week period when your course starts.

The student visa (subclass 500) came into effect in July 2016. It covers the whole duration of your study program and lets you stay in Sydney, Australia for up to five years, and is in line with your enrolment date. The base application charge for an Australian Visa is 620 AUD. •    Enrolled in a full-time on-campus program in Sydney, Australia.
•    Have an OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) or fall in either of the exempt categories.
•    Must be of the minimum age of 6.
•    Have proof of wellbeing arrangement, if you are less than 18 years old.
•    If you’re outside Australia, apply for your visa at least 6 weeks before your course begins.
•    If you’re in Sydney, let plenty of time before your current visa expires as you may want more time in the event of any complications.
•    Use the Document Checklist Tool and gather your documents. Make sure you have the most up-to-date list as the Document Checklist is updated twice a year on 31 March and 30 September.

What is the student visa processing time?
•    Processing times can differ based on which sector you’re applying for and it can take between:
•    75% of submissions in 29 days, 90% of submissions in 42 days for the Higher Education Sector.
•    75% of submissions in 43 days, 90% of submissions in 77 days for Vocational Education and Training Sector.
