Tasmania has recently made changes to the nomination criteria for subclass 491/190 visa. For subclass 190 nomination, high caliber subclass 491 category applicants may be considered. Essentially, if the applicant does not meet the criteria for a subclass 190 visa the Tasmanian government is considering applicants for a subclass 190. How to apply?
To apply on the skill select EOI, you must select subclass 491 and subclass 190. A written submission outlining the reason for your request is also required to prepare.
How to determine you are a high caliber applicant?
As positive attributes the government will consider following:
- Employment in specialist position, highly skilled (normally ANZSCO 1 or 2)
- Unique and rare skills in high demand
- In a health related setting specialist allied health /health skill and employment
- With prior skills / experience recent graduate of a TSOL related occupation and can demonstrate strong employment opportunities
- With highly reputable, well known company, Employment directly related to nominated occupation.
- Having lived in Tasmania for two years or more and employed in skilled area of high demand.
- Solid and ongoing skilled employment with extensive residence in Tasmania over three years.
Tasmania Graduate Requirements:
New rules will apply if you commence your last course of study in Tasmania after 30 June 2021. Migration agency in Sydney will guide you in details about Tasmania nominations changes for 2021.
The new rules are:
- From a tertiary institution in Tasmania you must have completed a course registered for overseas students on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses.
- Your course of study must have been completed full time and on site and must be listed on CRICOS with duration of at least 40 weeks in Tasmania.
- From the commencement of your course and for the duration of your studies you must have lived in Tasmania for at least one year.
- You and your dependent can provide evidence of your ongoing genuine commitment and must be currently living in Tasmania.
- You must provide a career plan if you are not currently in skilled employment that explains how your studies have increased your ability to find skilled work in Tasmania.
- A relevant skills assessment will be highly regarded; however your study does not need to be related to your nominated occupation.
- The study must be a diploma, degree or workshop development area or qualification directly related to the priority Industry Training if you held a student visa subclass 500.
- The study must be directly related to the priority Industry Training and workshop development area if you held a visa that is not student visa.
Workshop Development Area and Priority Industry Training:
There are a few areas that are listed in the workshop development area and priority industry training list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualification level specified for the area that apply under this program.
There are nine areas currently:
- Hospitality and Tourism
- Construction and Building including energy and infrastructure, civil construction
- Energy and advanced manufacturing including defense and maritime manufacturing
- Communications and information technology
- Disability services
- Aquaculture
- Aged services
- Agriculture
- Logistics and Transport
